About
Well, hello there. I thought I’d give blogging a try. Anyway, “The History Man” is me, Alexander Rose, an author (of sorts). I’ve written Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring and Kings in the North: The House of Percy in British History. I also have a new book coming out in October 2008 called American Rifle: A Biography.
My all-bells-and-whistles website is www.alexrose.com. You can find out more there, including how to contact me, how to pay me money, call my agent, and get on my (occasional) mailing list, as well as read reviews of my books.
Now, a bit more about me. I used to be what was once quaintly known as a “newspaperman,” but, a few years ago, took a deep breath, held my nose, walked the plank, and dove (or perhaps plunged) into the cold, murky, merciless waters of Independent Writerhood. I haven’t yet come up for air . . .
Now, originally, I felt that this blog should cover only topics specific to my books, but then I thought it over and realized that the only person who might then bother reading it was me. And even I would begin to find it pretty tedious after a while.
So, I decided to broaden its range to cover, well, History (with a capital H). There’s a lot of interesting stuff out there on a ton of different websites and maybe, just maybe, I could set myself up as a Clearing House of Historical Information. What I’m intending to do — apart from posting material relevant to my own books and interests, as well as announcements, speaking engagements, and reviews (only the good ones, of course) — is link to (maybe even briefly comment upon) various articles, blog entries, and newspaper/magazine pieces that you, dear reader, may have missed.
Well, that’s the plan, anyway. We’ll see how it goes.
